All the runs came on a pair of two-run homers by Jay Payton. Lilly is still struggling to keep the ball in the park -- and when the wind is blowing out at Wrigley, it doesn't help. AT&T Park should be a better fit. Lilly is 2-1 with a 6.08 ERA lifetime against the Giants. Giants: After posting a 1-3 record in his first four June starts, Zito flashed his 2002 AL Cy Young form on Wednesday at Cleveland, surrendering one run and four hits in a season-high 6 2/3 innings as the Giants prevailed, 4-1. Zito's employing a slightly lower arm slot and using a two-seam fastball to his advantage. Zito was 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA in two starts against Chicago last year. But he has struggled at AT&T Park, where he's 0-7 with a 7.34 ERA

Posts: 220 (06/30/08 07:26 PM) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I am glad that the interleague novelty nonsense is over...IMO win or lose, those are wasted games on a schedule...and any games where the DH is used are no better than exhibition games. I mentioned to TJ in a chat last week that the Cubs looked like a tired club...I said that while we were sweeping that AL team in Wrigley...the schedule is unkind further, in that we travel from Chi to the coast with no days off. ARam, however gets a couple days away for "family matters" ...he certainly batted like he was distracted the last series. Although, props to the Sox, their pitchers made some adjustments. Fukedome also looked mentally tired...misplaying balls to the wall in a couple games is the evidence to me. Also the pitchers are making adjustments to him...it is now in the Cubs' court to induce Kosuke to make the next round of adjustments. Marmol ran outta gas last week, but seems to be recovering. Hopefully Lou will get some backups some playing time while Z, Johnson, and Soriano get the 15 day vacation. THe Giants aren't that scary, but the Cub bats need to find the ball on the road.

Thank you Ted for another All-Star type performance Bob: The Cubs have been putting guys on base but Zito keeps escaping, we need someone to get that timely hit, that gapper with two guys on. Thank you Matt Murton And TJ thought I did something good when I predicted that excellent Sunday night game by Marquis. That was only 1 thing, this was 3.

He had been stellar previously, outdueling Brad Penny, Roy Halladay and Jose Contreras in consecutive outings. The start was Marquis' shortest of the season and his first loss since May 13. Marquis is 3-0 with a 2.56 lifetime against the Giants. Giants: Cain struggled in his last outing, allowing four runs and eight hits in five innings at Cleveland. That interrupted a three-game stretch in which he was 2-1 with a 2.95 ERA, 25 strikeouts and only three walks in 21 1/3 innings. Cain's appearances against the Cubs conjure an indelible memory: On Sept. 9, 2005, he became the youngest Giant in the franchise's San Francisco history to throw a complete game when he beat Chicago with a two-hitter. Cain finished 1-1 with a 5.73 ERA in two starts against the Cubs last year.

The travesty of it is that Dempster leaves after 6 leading 5-2. Marmol comes in and strikes out the first 2 guys on 6 pitches. Carlos is back - Right? Well not quite. A walk, a single, and a hanging slider later it's 5-5 and Dempster still has no win on the road. Fontenot jacks one in the top of 8, Howry and Wood hold them off and Marmol gets a WIN. Is that fair? Anyway - it's a win Late afternoon game today Gallagher vs Lincecum I don't believe in jinxes - nothing that is done off the field by any of us affects what happens on the field. However, Tim Lincecum's picture is on the cover of Sports Illustrated this week... One can only hope.
